He has lensed projects such as the critically acclaimed Showtime documentary "The One and Only Dick Gregory," which received an Emmy Award nomination, and "Angola Do You Hear Us," which achieved Official Shortlist recognition for an Academy Award. 

He has also shot music videos for the Grammy nominated artists “Kem” and “Joe”, featuring performers such as Rick Ross and Wiz Khalifa. 

Notably, Derek's experience has also led to his appointment as a judge at the 2023 News and Documentary Emmy Awards.
